Terry L Anderson Morning Topic: Understanding the Old Testament Through Comparison With
Contemporary Near Eastern Literature
Bio: Terry is a Software Engineer and Treasurer/Webmaster of the Forum
Notes: The Hebrews were not alone in the Near East, but part of a larger
social structure. We can better understand the Old Testament if we
understand the conceptual world of the Near East at the time, the cosmology and
world view that the Hebrews shared to a large degree with their neighbors.
The literary forms of their neighbors also helps us understand the literary
forms in the Old Testament and how this influenced their interpretation of the text.
Much of this comes from the book: Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament,
by John Walton.
