Current Schedule of Meetings

We worship twice a month, usually on the first and third Sabbaths. On our first Sabbath most months we have a guest speaker along with an additional afternoon session at 2:15 as noted. All our services are at St Mary's Church (see Our Home) and start at 11 AM.

Member Speaker: Christie Chui-Shan Chow  Morning Topic: TBD   Bio: Christie obtained her Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary’s Program of Religion and Society in 2015. She was born and raised in Hong Kong, and has studied extensively in China.   Notes: Christie has recently returned from China and will, I believe, be reporting to us about her expriences.

Shared Guest Speaker: Kevin James  Morning Topic: He will speak about classic American and Adventist views regarding the relationship of church and state, and comparing that with what is known as American civil religion.   Bio: Kevin is Associate Director in the Religious Libery Department of the Southern Union of SDA.

Shared Guest Speaker: Jon Paulien  Morning Topic: TBD   Bio: Jon Paulien is Dean of the School of Religion at Loma Linda University. He is the author of twenty-one books and more than two hundred articles (Adventist Review, Ministry, Journal of Biblical Literature, Biblical Research, Andrews University Seminary Studies, among others), scholarly papers (Society of Biblical Literature, Chicago Society for Biblical Research, and others) and other publications. Jon is a specialist in the study of the Johannine literature in the New Testament (Gospel of John and Book of Revelation) and the intersection of faith with contemporary culture. He also takes special delight in seminars and presentations to non-specialists who can make practical use of the material in the real world.   Notes: We are cooperating with the Church of the Advent Hope to hear this great speaker only available on this date. Notice the time. And notice that we are also meeting at St Mary's for another service the same day. This Service should conclude soon enough to get to the other service (see below)

Guest Speaker: Les Wright  Morning Topic: The F-word (Living as a Christian in a world of FEAR)   Bio: Les, a physician, was a member with us for a long time, but is now retired and living in Australia. We love to have him speak when he gets back to this hemisphere, but he is only available this Sabbath.   Notes: Note that this is the second service on this Sabbath. The other one at the 87th St Church (see above) should end soon enough to attend both.

Shared Guest Speaker: Dr Abraham Terian  Morning Topic: What, Then, of the Kingdom? A Walk through the Gospel of Matthew   Bio: Dr. Abraham Terian is Emeritus Professor of Armenian Theology and Patristics at St. Nersess Armenian Seminary, New York, where he also served as Academic Dean and edited the St. Nersess Theological Review for 12 years (the only Western-language periodical on Armenian Theology). Prior to his time at St. Nersess, he was Professor of Inter-testamental and Early Christian Literatures at Andrews University for twenty years, and for four years a recurring Visiting Professor for Armenian Studies and Hellenistic Judaism at the University of Chicago. He is an internationally renowned expert in the fields of Hellenistic, early Christian and medieval Armenian studies, fields in which he has published extensively (including ten books, the last of which is The Festal Works of St. Gregory of Narek, 2016). As a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Hebrew University, in 2005 he became the first recipient of the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in the Humanities award by the Fulbright Foundation and the US–Israel Educational Foundation. In 2008 he was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, and this year a Fellow of the Ambrosian Academy of Milan.

University MEd Science Education, Various SDA Universitys in west: Post graduate work in Paleontology, Anthropology, Geology, Biology, Creation studies. Teaching career: Takoma Academy: Biology, Human Anat/Phys, Chemistry 43 yrs., Washington Adventist University last 5 yrs. in Science Dept. : Human Health and Disease, Humans and the Environment, Human Anat/Phys. Lectured in many U.S. states including Hawaii. Regular speaking schedule currently at Spencerville SDA church and South Carroll SDA church, both in Md. Currently have appointments throughout churches in WVa. Conference   Notes: This service will be at the Historic Manhattan SDA Church in Greenwich Village, 232 West 11 Street (Off Seventh Avenue).

Guest Speaker: Lowell Cooper  Morning Topic: The Holy Spirit Writes the Mission Map   Afternoon Topic: What is Happening in My Church   Bio: Canadian-born Lowell Cooper recently retired after 17 years as a vice president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Prior to his employment at the Church’s world headquarters, Lowell held pastoral and departmental leadership roles in Canada followed by over 16 years of service in Pakistan and India. He holds a master of divinity degree from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary in Michigan and a master's degree from Loma Linda University School of Public Health. Lowell continues to serve as chair for the boards at Loma Linda University Health—an academic medical center comprised of an 8-school university and 6 hospitals. He is also chair of the board for Adventist Health International. Lowell’s wife, Rae Lee, is a nurse and musician. The couple has two adult children.
