The Metro New York Adventist Forum meets from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM twice a month, usually on the first and third Saturdays (except July and August, and the first week in September) at St Mary's Church [photo] a few blocks north of Columbia University in New York City (map and directions). On the first Saturday of most months we usually have a guest speaker and we have a second meeting from 2:15- 4:00. This meeting is held in the kitchen area in the back of the church and is more informal discussion. Many bring or buy a lunch and eat together between the meetings.
Our Saturday morning services include music (the chapel has a famous pipe organ and we are fortunate to have two organists as members), liturgy, scripture readings, and either a speaker or a short presentation followed by a discussion. In addition to guest speakers, we have presentations by members, panel lead discussions, and special musical programs. We sometime have a periodic series of meetings on related topics. For example, in 1993 we began a series on the history of the Early Christian church, which developed such interest we are still periodically continuing this topic. At our annual business meeting in the spring, members make suggestions for topics to be used during the following year.
We have some members that attend every service and others that attend for topics of particular interest to them. Our regular members take turns leading out in the service. Attendence typically varies between 15 and 30 so everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the discussion.
